Renew Your Mind

The Dimensions of Wellness encompasses many facets. So, it should be no surprise that today’s blog topic speaks to the spiritual. To have a healthy body, we need healthy thoughts, which lead to healthy words and healthy actions. I like using the Bible Scripture Romans 12:2 because it tells us to renew our minds and we will be transformed. Another verse even tells us how to do it. It instructs us to have the mind of Christ. Wow. Philippians 2:5

What is the mindset of Christ? We might use another scripture to answer that question. The scripture I’m thinking is the one that talks about the fruit of the Spirit. Whether or not you are a Bible-believing Christian, or are an otherwise spiritually “religious” person (or not), you have been taught the principles of the fruit of the Spirit, as have I. These principles are even taught in business as emotional intelligence (EQ or EI).

Okay, “the fruit of the Spirit are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and faithfulness.” Galatians 5:22

Embedding these behaviors in our thoughts and minds should cause us to practice them. Think about for a moment. What would the world, or our personal environment, look like, feel like, if we each adopted the fruit of the spirit? It would be an amazing place. No crime, no hunger, no poverty. Peace and joy. Love would rule the day. Wouldn’t it be grand?

Let us each intentionally grab these nuggets of truth and practice then daily. We will encounter challenges of opposition along the way, but the more we integrate them into our lives, the more others will change around us. Let’s make a difference.

Engineered for Health

Fitness machine with Timer

I am on the other side of completing a health challenge campaign at the J.O.B. I was the team captain and, consequently, named our team “Engineered for Health” as we are part of the Engineering College. Following is the closing message I sent to the team. I thought it fitting on a broader scale and share it with you. I hope it resonates with you and that you share it with others.

“When I think about our team name, Engineered for Health, I think about the will and science of the human mind and body. That it does have the power, the tools if you will, to heal itself. Knowing that the word “health” is built upon the word “heal”, you cannot help but believe the former to be true. And, of course the word “engineered” – created for, built for, planned for – and any other verb you can think of.

“Bottom line, is that whatever our individual health goals are, we have the power to make them happen by virtue of our “nature made” ability to heal ourselves. It will be our choice to help or hinder the natural process.90 for life supplements

“The “Biggest Loser for Life” health challenge sets a good foundation from which to catapult forward. Review the 6 categories* from the scorecard and determine that you (we) will permanently integrate these behaviors*, and more as needed, into

your daily living. When that happens, the 7th category on the scorecard* will begin to reflect what we ultimately want and need. Let
the mirror be your friend.

“I wish each for of us success as we practice health each day. Understand that life will happen to slip us up and sometimes we may fall. You have the choice and power to get back up, even if you have to crawl or lean on another.”

Talking Corn…Popcorn…A Quick Lesson

popcorn kernelI eat a lot of popcorn. I support a local boy scout troop fundraising and when that’s gone usually hit the store to replenish. I usually get extra butter or theater butter flavors. Today as I went through my routine of popping that little brown folded bag into the microwave oven, I thought about how this snack came into being. I browsed the net as I chomped on the popcorn and cheese sandwich.

Here is what I discovered through Wikipedia. You can read the entire entry here: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popcorn

What’s on your plate?

Audrey's-dinner-tilapia-broccoli-mixed-riceThis is more food than I am accustomed to eating in one sitting, however recommended by my nutritionist. I hate feeling to full, so I usually eat all you see except the rice. She said I could double the vegetables as an option. What I noticed is that my snacking into the evening made up for only eating a 2/3 full plate. I have not gained weight but I have not lost any either. That’s bad news. From now on it’s a full plate of good stuff. If I feel full before finishing, I’ll eat the rest for a healthy snack. What’s on your plate?
